Automating the future of robotic surgery.
We are the ARISE Lab at the University of Leeds, developing autonomous robotic surgery and novel sensing for surgical robots. We automate surgical procedures on platforms such as the da Vinci Research Kit, and design the sensors that enhance robotic surgery.

Sensing
Advanced Sensing for Surgical Perception
Force, ultrasound, soft, and multimodal sensing that give surgical robots richer perception of the operative scene than vision alone.
AI & Data ScienceArtificial Intelligence for Surgical Training
AI that analyses surgical workflow, instrument motion, and procedural execution to deliver objective, data-driven training feedback.
Surgical AutonomyAutomation of Surgical Procedures
Control algorithms and autonomy frameworks that let existing surgical robots perform increasingly complex procedural tasks under clinical supervision.
